Q. What is the battery life for both models?
The batteries on Carver and Manta are the same, but due to the power difference between the two models, they have a different duration depending on the board that is used.
Carver: 20 minutes going full thrust the whole ride. Riding at mixed speed will give a longer time.
Manta: Over 2 and half hours.
Q. What is the top speed?
The Carver and Manta are designed to enjoy two different styles on the water. Therefore, each model has its own maximum speed.
Carver: 30-35km/h (19-22 mph) with a 75-80 kg (165-175lbs) user on flat water.
Manta: 8-10km/h (5-6 mph).
Q. How long does it take to charge?
The batteries can be charged on a conventional outlet in around 120 minutes.
Q. Can you use the same battery for both models?
Absolutely, you can easily interchange the batteries and use the same one for the Carver or the Manta.
Bixpy Jets
Q: What is the warranty on my Bixpy Jet?
If things go wrong with your Bixpy Jet, we’re here to help and we’re here to make your experience pleasant. All Bixpy products are covered by a one-year warranty for parts and labor. Unless you’ve abused or neglected the product, we will take care of it.
Beyond the first year, we will do our best to resolve whatever issues you have in the most reasonable way possible so you can be back on the water as quickly as possible for as long as you own your Bixpy Jet.
BEFORE you send us anything back, please contact our customer service to discuss your issue and obtain an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization).
Q. How much testing have the Bixpy Jets been through?
The motors have been tested in fresh water, salt water, bathtubs, swimming pools, pig troughs, fish tanks and in Bixpy's labs for months. They have been tested for performance and durability and everything in between. Here are a few questions that have come up in the past and tests that have been done during the development of the Jets:
- Electrical engineers have shorted everything on purpose to try to start fires, to make sure you don't.
- Multiple battery packs have been left sitting in the locked trunk of a car in the desert sun to make sure they can handle the heat.
- LED lights and electronics have been tested to make sure they don't flicker or "hum" when you are recording on your action camera.
- All buttons pushed on the remote control thousands of times to make sure the batteries last the way they're supposed to last and they work reliably.
- Every component has been purposely broken, everything, and yes, things do break if you try hard enough, but we've done everything we can to make sure they last under reasonable abuse.
- They have "cooked" most of the parts in boiling salt water and acid to test corrosion resistance.
And so much more. In short, they've spent months beating up the Bixpy Jets and they're ready for you to enjoy.
Q. Can I travel with my Bixpy Jets?
Yes. As of October 2016, the largest battery you can carry on an airplane with you is a 160Wh battery. For this reason, we offer the Bixpy Swim Jets with two battery options. A 160Wh Traveler Edition is offered for those who want to travel with their Bixpy Swim Jets. A larger capacity 225Wh battery is offered for those who don't necessarily want to take their batteries on a commercial airliner and would prefer a longer battery life. Both batteries are identical in every aspect except for their longevity. We're offering the smaller battery with a Super-Charger so you'll be able to charge your Bixpy Jet in less than an hour!
Q: Where can I get more information on installation and operation of my Bixpy Jet?
In addition to the videos in this website and the videos currently on our YouTube Channel, we will continue to add a series of videos produced on this website and on our Youtube channel prior to shipping in March that will detail the installation of the different options for your Bixpy Jet. Additionally, you will receive a full user manual with installation instructions in the box.
Q: What kind of speeds can I expect from my Bixpy Jets on various devices:
There is a speed chart in each product using a few different kayaks, SUPs and swimmers. However, your particular device and water and wind conditions can change these speeds and performance numbers dramatically. One other thing that really affects the performance is the hull speed of different watercraft (please see next question).
Q: I want to go faster, can I attach multiple Bixpy Jets to my kayak or SUP?
Yes and no. We have tried this and the results are not spectacular. As mentioned above, there is something called "hull speed" for all watercraft. This is pretty much the maximum speed something moves through water no matter how big of an engine you put on the back. Depending on how scientific you want to get, you can Google "Hull Speed" and really get into this topic but essentially, the only way you can go faster is by getting a faster kayak or SUP. Those tend to be the longer and more slender kayaks and SUPs used for racing. Regular kayaks (like Hobies, Pelicans or Preception kayaks) will top off at about 6 MPH with one or two motors. Keep in mind, this is all based on perfect water and wind conditions. The truth is, wind, wave and water conditions will usually prevent you from reaching your hull speed, so putting two motors on your kayak will only help you reach that hull speed more quickly and more consistently regardless of the conditions. The big question:"Is it worth it?" In our humble opinion, not really. Although it's a bit more fun having the extra push, you'll find in the long run, it does not make enough of a difference to justify the purchase. One thing that you will likely find useful is an extra battery pack for long days out on the water.
Q: Is there an optimal speed?
YES! For sure. Given the topic above and all the testing we've done, somewhere around speed 5 is the best place to be. This is where everything is optimal in terms of battery life, user experience and kayak or SUP performance.
Q: What kind of maintenance do the Bixpy Jets need?
Not much really. They are fully sealed and made to last. Of course, like all of your other possessions, some common sense and care will make them last a lot longer and more enjoyable to use, especially if you’re running them in salt water. For example, it is a good idea to rinse them off after each use and you should never open the sealed charging ports under water. When not in use, do not keep the motors submersed on your vessel, especially in salt water. If you change adapters often or if you do dives deeper than 30 ft (10M), filling the connector tips with dielectric grease is a great idea and will help prevent corrosion from salt water and makes mating easier.
Q: What kind of battery is in the packs?
The batteries we use are lithium ion batteries. These are the same batteries that are used in laptops and cell phones. That’s one reason we can make the packs so small and light and the batteries last as long as they do. That’s also the reason the batteries are a little pricey. The upside is that they will last you a long time (about 500 full charge cycles before losing any power) and have no battery memory. What makes these batteries so amazing is also what makes them quite volatile. So we forbid any sort of tampering with the battery housing or any DIY projects that involve the battery pack. And under no circumstance should you charge the batteries with any charger other than the one that comes with your device. These batteries run on a very sophisticated circuitry and they will shut down at the first sign of stress to prevent fires or overheating. Any tampering with the battery box or the battery system will void all warranties on the system.
Q: Is there a way to charge the batteries with a solar panel?
A common and a great question. We're working on this. Although we have a few options for solar charging the battery packs on the go, we're not happy with any of them. The good ones are too expensive (>$500) and, of course, the cheap ones are no good. The real problem is that the technology is just not there in terms of power and size for the right price. Anything small enough to be portable is not powerful enough to charge the Bixpy Jet batteries and if it's powerful enough, it's more than the price of buying multiple batteries. We will continue to explore more options and hopefully, by the time the Jets are released in the spring, we'll have a viable solution for solar charging the battery packs on the go.
Q: How do I attach a Bixpy Jet to my inflatable kayak?
The fin box adapter is designed to attach to most inflatable kayaks, SUPs or other water toys made of PVC or Polyester.
Here’s a simple video on how you attach the fin adapter onto your craft: https://youtu.be/1glblkC8d5A
Once you have the fin box attached, the Bixpy adapter simply plugs into the fin box. The fin box becomes a permanent part of your kayak, but the motor and Bixpy adapters can be taken off whenever you want.
Q: Can I use other batteries with my Bixpy Jet?
The short answer is "No" and the long answer is No. The Bixpy batteries are higher voltage lithium ion batteries with lots of custom built electronics inside that communicate with the motor housing. So you will not be able to run the motors with other batteries.

Q. How flexible is the M1 deck?
The flex of the M1 deck is stiff, but not so stiff that it makes the ride harsh or the deck feel lifeless. The wood core construction does a great job absorbing vibration without sacrificing control and stability at higher speed, while the 79mm wheels and ¼” risers help smooth out rough pavement and cracks.
Q. What is the M1 deck built out of?
The M1 deck is built using a wood core, lightweight capped composite construction that’s prevalent in the snowboarding, ski and wakeboarding industries. Utilizing this construction allows us to create a deck that’s not only extremely light and durable, but also has just enough flex to feel lively and absorb road vibration at speed.
Q. Can I fly with the Inboard M1 and Battery?
FLYING WITH YOUR M1 + BATTERY
Inboard Technology has developed your Inboard M1 and PowerShift battery to be in compliance with applicable laws for flying within the USA and internationally.
Whenever flying with your M1 always follow instructions from authorized air travel personnel, including pilots, flight attendants, airline ground staff, transportation security, police, and other security personnel. Airline secruity information changes often, before you fly please check support.inboardtechnology.com for the latest updates on flying with batteries.
Additionally here are some tips for flying with your M1:
- Remove the PowerShift battery from your M1 whenever flying.
- Check your Inboard M1 as checked luggage. The M1 does not comply with carry-on requirements for most US airlines.
- Keep your PowerShift battery (or batteries) with you in your carry-on luggage. The PowerShift battery MUST travel in the plane cabin with you.
- FAA regulations limit the number of PowerShift Batteries you can travel with to one primary battery, and two spare batteries.
- Do not use or transport a PowerShift Battery if the casing breaks open, leaks any substance, becomes excessively hot, or if you detect an unusual odor. Do not handle a damaged or leaking battery unless you are wearing disposable rubber gloves, eye protection, and are in a well-ventilated area. Dispose of the rubber gloves and damaged battery properly in accordance with regulations governing disposal of toxic materials. If you notice a malfunction or any of the above happening with your battery when flying, alert airline personnel immediately, and safely dispose of the battery.
- Lithium-ion batteries are regulated as “Hazardous Materials” by the U.S. Department of Transportation. More information on shipping Lithium-ion batteries is available from the U.S. Department of Transportation at: www.phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat/regs
Q. Can I ride the M1 in the rain? Should I be worried about rust or other environmental factors?
As an option for commuting, we're aware of the imperfect environments and conditions you might encounter while riding the M1. For the occasional rainstorm or patch of wet pavement, we've designed the M1 to be as water resistant as possible. The Powershift Battery is protected by a water resistant gasket between the battery bay and the battery lid, and components inside the Manta Drive are laminated to protect against water and dust. That said, some of the components (trucks, skate bearings, base plates) can be affected through normal wear and tear, including exposure to water. Always take your board inside when it's raining, and treat your M1 like you would any other consumer technology device.
